Mashup Software

See also HTML Scrape, ASP Screen Scrape, Web Crawling

Mashup software refers to programs that combine data from two different sources: web and non-web. This requires at least four features, (1) upload capability, (2) comparison capability, (3) unique data recognition, and (4) collection merger. Mozenda was designed with a highly developed version of this capability, including the ability to customize exactly how collections from your desktop and a data extraction are combined.

Mozenda gives you the tools to harvest web content from any site and ftp it directly to your server.

Mashups can be simple or complex. Mashups combine information from web and non-web sources, presenting the information garnered in a manner that is useful, whether for individuals or corporations. An example of a mashup would be a program that integrates real estate data with Google maps such as the website Zillow, or perhaps weather data with baseball schedules. Business applications can, by extension, integrate data from a range of sources based on needs and applications. Consumers may use a mashup on occasion, but financial firms are using mashup technologies to follow currency activities or spreads on various commodity exchanges. And eRetailers might use them for price comparisons on their own or competitors’ products and services. Finding the best web page scraper is not the hardest task. There are many good products out there, but you want to find the best web page scraper, so that you can blend ease of use with thoroughness of output. Mozenda is that scraper!

The Mozenda Advantage

Unlike other parsing or wrapper based web data extraction software, Mozenda uses browser rendering technology which allows the Mozenda application to look and behave like a web browser, but act like a web scraper. There are multiple benefits to this approach:

  1. Mozenda loads pages and navigates pages just like a browser.
  2. Mozenda can click and activate any item on a web page and wait for it to load.
  3. Mozenda can easily navigate through sub-pages.
  4. Mozenda handles AJAX and Javascript without problems.
  5. With Mozenda you only have to set up the navigation and capture action once and it will replicate
    across pages and categories.
