Many clients have noticed that many times viewing exported csv files in Microsoft Excel causes strange characters to appear and that some numbering columns appear to be altered. This is due to some of the automatic formatting that Excel tries to perform when you open csv files in their program. Many users have found success viewing csv files using a csv viewer that does not try and format the data in any way. A free one that I have used in the past is called DiamondCS CSView. You can download it at http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Text_Viewers/DiamondCS_CSView.htmlIf opening your exported file in a csv viewer alleviates the character and formatting issues then you can narrow the problem down to an excel formatting setting. One other thing you might try is setting the format of the columns in excel to “Text.” This will cause excel to only display the raw text of the column and will remove any of its attempted formmating.
